The Federation of German Industries (BDI) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) kicked off a series of joint workshops entitled “Sustainably successful: Industry and the SDGs” in Berlin on Thursday 23rd March 2017. The objective of the event and subsequent workshops is to discuss how German industry can successfully support the implementation of the SDGs and what the business case for such action is.
The event was kicked off by Secretary of State Thomas Silborn on behalf of BMZ and by Dr. Stefan Mair, Member of the Executive Board, on behalf of BDI. The SDG Action Campaign was represented by Susanne Salz, who introduced the SDGs and their global context.
The keynote by Dr Antje von Dewitz, CEO of outdoor sports brand Vaude (links to https://www.vaude.com/en-GB), gave an excellent example of a company who combines caring for people, planet and profit in their successful business. Dr van Dewitz asked the assembled business representatives whether they would prefer to be a sustainability leader now or a mere follower in 10 years. We hope many choose the former option and remain ready to partner with interested companies.
